Buffalo needed a block, a bounce and a long drive to leave SoFi Stadium with a win. The Bills beat the Los Angeles Rams 37-34 in overtime on Monday night, taking their record to 4-1 and dropping the Rams to 2-3, after Los Angeles had scored on the final four seconds of regulation to tie it.

The turning point came in overtime, ESPN reported. Buffalo fumbled early in the extra period, but Greg Rousseau blocked Rams kicker Harrison Mevis's second missed field goal of the night, and that handed the Bills another possession. Josh Allen moved them into range and Tyler Bass hit a 45-yarder with 1:55 left.

How did the Bills win the game?

Allen finished with 331 total yards and two touchdowns, 210 passing and 121 rushing, per ESPN. James Cook ran 25 times for 111 yards and two scores, Fox Sports' box score showed, and Buffalo ran for 234 yards in all against 77 for Los Angeles. The Bills also won despite losing the possession battle, holding the ball for 30:08 to the Rams' 37:57, and despite two turnovers to none for Los Angeles.

It was a night of heavy passing from the other side. Matthew Stafford was 40 of 54 for 383 yards and three touchdowns, with the 40 completions a career high according to Fox. Puka Nacua had 17 catches, a career best, for 138 yards and a touchdown.

The yardage was close enough to make the result feel like luck. Los Angeles out-gained Buffalo 454 yards to 436, passing for 377 against the Bills' 202, but it was the ground game that decided the night: Buffalo's 234 rushing yards came from a backfield in which the quarterback was nearly as productive as the running back. Allen's 121 rushing yards on their own were more than the Rams' entire team total of 77.

What went wrong for the Rams?

Kyren Williams scored from a yard out with four seconds left to force overtime, which made the ending crueller. Mevis missed twice before the block, and Rams coach Sean McVay said the kicking unit was "not even close to good enough" and that the team would evaluate everything, ESPN reported. A game that produced 454 Rams yards and 383 from their quarterback was lost on special teams.

What is next for Buffalo and Los Angeles?

There was injury news for Buffalo. Right tackle Spencer Brown left with a back injury and receiver DJ Moore sat out with a shoulder injury, so both are worth watching before the Bills visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Los Angeles hosts Arizona the same day, and McVay has a week to find a fix. The Bills are 4-1; a Rams team at 2-3 can ill afford more one-score losses.
