Bitcoin spent Sunday morning going nowhere in particular, which is its own kind of news after a week like this one. It was changing hands at about $75,800, essentially flat on the day, according to CryptoTicker, with Coinbase's overnight range running from roughly $75,545 to $75,868. Our last look at the market, in the Friday report on the $75,000 line, had it sitting on that same floor.
The quiet hides a streak. The week opened at $78,232, and unless bitcoin closes above that level when the weekly candle ends at 1am CET on Monday, it will be a fifth straight losing week, CryptoTicker said. That sequence has cost about 12.4 percent since the 4 October close of $86,507, though no single week lost more than 3.3 percent.
Why are bitcoin ETFs losing money in 2026?
U.S. spot bitcoin funds lost $1.28 billion over the five sessions to Friday, the worst week since late June, The Block reported from SoSoValue data. Our Saturday report has the day-by-day breakdown. Four of the five days were outflows (the exception was Wednesday, with about $74.6 million coming in), and Friday alone saw $411.9 million leave, of which BlackRock's IBIT accounted for $403 million.
That was enough to push the funds' 2026 total to about minus $914 million, from roughly plus $368 million a week earlier. Ether funds fared no better: they lost $365 million, a sixth straight weekly outflow.
Nothing in the data explains the selling by itself. Blockchain Reporter, which counts $1.2817 billion out over the four outflow sessions, warns that flows describe what holders did, not why. The Block ties the week to the post-midterm sell-off in stocks, doubts about AI spending and, earlier, the Binance hack.
What are the key bitcoin price levels to watch?
Above the market, CryptoTicker puts the weekly open at $78,232 first, then the 100-day line near $77,300 and the 50-day near $81,800. Blockchain Reporter has the 50-day at $81,765 and says bitcoin has closed below it for 18 straight sessions.
Below, the nearest marker is Friday's low of $74,722, then the 200-day average near $73,200, which Blockchain Reporter puts at $73,176 and notes has not been tested since the September crossover. The crypto Fear and Greed Index stood at 28, in fear. CryptoTicker's view is that the selling looks tired but has not reversed.
What happens to bitcoin next week?
Weekend trading is thin, so a move either way before the candle closes would not say much about conviction. The first real test is Monday evening, when new ETF figures arrive, because the funds do not trade on weekends. The bigger event is Tuesday's US October inflation report at 2:30pm CET. CryptoTicker calls it the bigger test for the week ahead, and a hot print would test the 200-day line quickly.
