Michael Carrick left his captain on the bench and watched his team fall apart before him. Manchester United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, a result that stretched their winless run to eight games and left them 16th, one point above the relegation zone, Sky Sports reported.

Carrick dropped Bruno Fernandes, who did not come off the bench, after the captain's comments on the team's tactics following Wednesday's 4-1 defeat at Como in the Champions League. Gary Neville called those remarks a direct attack on the manager and said the club is a mess.

How did Bournemouth beat Manchester United?

Rayan scored at the far post in the 38th minute from Justin Kluivert's free-kick, which was conceded by Ayden Heaven's lunge. Five minutes later Marcus Tavernier made it two after a slip by Leny Yoro, and Evanilson added a third in the 71st minute after beating goalkeeper Senne Lammens to the ball. Evanilson also had a goal ruled out for offside, and Rayan should have scored again after another Heaven mistake. Carrick sent on Matheus Cunha at half-time for Youri Tielemans, but it changed little.

Bournemouth have now won back-to-back league games and four in a row in all competitions. Their manager Marco Rose said he felt empathy for Carrick, Sky said, while Carrick spoke of a strange mix of emotions and his love of the job.

What happened in Liverpool against Brighton?

At Anfield, Liverpool won 2-0 despite having only 35.6 percent of the ball, the second-lowest share for a Premier League home win since 2003-04, Sky Sports said. Pascal Gross turned a Florian Wirtz shot into his own net in the 17th minute, and Alexander Isak finished Bradley Barcola's cut-back four minutes later. It was Isak's sixth league goal of the season and his third game in a row with one.

Brighton had 64 percent of possession but only one shot on target, and Yasin Ayari hit the post in the 36th minute. Ferdi Kadioglu went off with a hip injury after seven minutes, and Wirtz was replaced in the 64th minute with an ankle problem. Wirtz said it was not too bad, while Liverpool's Andoni Iraola said it was unclear. The win lifts Liverpool to fourth, above Chelsea and a point behind Brighton, who suffered their first defeat since August, and was Liverpool's first league home win under Iraola.

What were the other Sunday results?

The42 reported that Newcastle won 2-0 at Crystal Palace, with William Osula scoring under two minutes after the restart and Harvey Barnes doubling the lead before the hour. Palace, 17th, had lost 5-0 at Brighton a week earlier. Hull and Brentford drew 1-1, with Oli McBurnie's 24th-minute penalty cancelled out by Dango Ouattara in the 63rd minute, and Sunderland and Leeds drew 0-0, leaving Sunderland bottom, Yahoo Sports said.

Next up for United is a fixture list that will not be kind to a manager under pressure, while Liverpool and Newcastle both have momentum to protect. Newcastle host Everton on Monday 2 November.
