Brewers Rout Rays 10-1 in World Series Game 3 as Gasser Goes Six Scoreless and Chourio Gets Four Hits
An eight-run fifth inning after a replay reversal put Milwaukee 3-0 up and one win from its first title, with rookie Robert Gasser allowing a single hit to a stunned Tampa Bay lineup.

Milwaukee is one win from the first championship in its history. The Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 at Tropicana Field on Monday night in Game 3 of the World Series, taking a 3-0 lead on the back of a rookie left-hander who barely gave the Rays a look and an eight-run fifth inning that turned a tight game into a rout.
It was the Brewers' eighth straight postseason win, MLB.com reported. They have not lost since Game 3 of the division series in San Diego on 6 October.
How did the Brewers score eight runs in the fifth inning?
Milwaukee led only 2-0 when the fifth began, after run-scoring singles from Christian Yelich and William Contreras in the second. With two outs, a force-out call at second base went against the Brewers, but their challenge succeeded and the inning stayed alive. What followed was historic. They became the first team to put seven consecutive batters on base with hits in a postseason game, according to MLB.com's takeaways, and the score went from 2-0 to 10-0.
Eight of the nine Brewers starters drove in a run. Brice Turang and Cooper Pratt each had two RBIs, and Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton and Jackson Chourio drove in one apiece. Freddy Peralta, the Rays starter, was charged with five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, WISN reported. Reliever Cam Booser faced four batters without recording an out, and the Brewers finished with 16 hits.
What did Robert Gasser do for Milwaukee?
Gasser, the rookie left-hander, allowed one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings, striking out three on 75 pitches. The hit was a leadoff single by Yandy Díaz in the first inning, and Gasser retired 14 in a row after it, WISN said. He is the ninth pitcher to throw six scoreless World Series innings while allowing one hit or none, MLB.com notes, and the first since Cristian Javier in 2022. Across three starts this October, all on the road, he has given up one run in 15 innings.
Who was the star at the plate?
Chourio went 4 for 5 with a stolen base. At 22 years and 229 days he became the second-youngest player to collect four hits and a steal in a World Series game, behind only Ty Cobb in 1908. It was his ninth multi-hit postseason game, tying Andruw Jones for the most before turning 23. Contreras added three hits.
Can the Rays still come back from 3-0?
History says almost not. Only one team, the 2004 Red Sox, has ever overturned a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series, and no World Series team has even reached a Game 6 after falling behind that far, MLB.com says. The Rays also arrived having been held to a 5-4 loss after leading 4-0 in the first inning of Game 2, a game we covered in our Game 2 report.
Milwaukee, which won a major-league-best 103 games in the regular season, needs one more victory. Tampa Bay needs four in a row, starting with Game 4.
