Bournemouth now have nine points from nine in the Europa League. A 3-0 win over AC Milan at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday, helped by a red card for Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, kept the club among the five teams with a perfect record after three matchdays, according to UEFA's round-up.

Elsewhere there was a draw for Palace, a heavy defeat for Celtic and a six-goal rout in Norway on a night when away teams did well.

How did Bournemouth beat Milan?

Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier both scored first-half penalties, either side of Maignan's dismissal, and Amine Adli added a free-kick with six minutes left. The Sports Encounter's timings put the goals at 8, 32 and 84 minutes, with Maignan sent off in the 27th. Bournemouth join Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen, Ferencvaros and Olympiacos on nine points.

What happened to Crystal Palace and the English sides?

Palace drew 2-2 at Besiktas. Wilfred Ndidi gave the hosts a half-time lead, Yeremy Pino and Jean-Philippe Mateta struck within five minutes to turn it around, and Junior Olaitan equalised on 73 minutes before Besiktas lost Umit Akdag to a red card four minutes later. Sunderland, still unbeaten, drew 1-1 at Lech Poznan after Timur Tutierov headed them in after two minutes and Leo Bengtsson levelled on 70.

Which other results stood out?

Real Sociedad won 6-0 at Lillestrom, with Sergio Gomez and Luka Sucic scoring twice each, according to The Sports Encounter, which also credited Mikel Oyarzabal with three assists. Javi Rodriguez scored twice in four minutes as Celta Vigo beat Celtic 2-1, leaving the Scottish side without a point and, by that report, on three straight defeats. Hoffenheim beat Lyon 3-0, Benfica won 4-1 at Omonia and Olympiacos edged Sparta Prague 1-0. Juventus drew 2-2 with Rennes. Leverkusen won 2-0 at OFI Crete and remain the only team yet to concede.

The rest of the night was lopsided. Union Saint-Gilloise won 4-0 against Hapoel Beer-Sheva, AZ Alkmaar won 4-0 at Ararat-Armenia, Anderlecht won 3-0 at Jagiellonia, Ferencvaros beat Torreense 4-1, NEC Nijmegen won 4-2 at Dinamo Zagreb, and Sturm Graz beat Marseille 1-0. Levski Sofia won 2-1 at Viktoria Plzen for their first league-phase victory, and Celje took their first point in a 2-2 draw with Salzburg. At Juventus, Zeki Celik opened the scoring and Rennes led through Musa Al-Taamari and Boulaye Dia before a late penalty rescued a point for the Italians.

Matchday four is on 5 November. Bournemouth's next test will show whether a nine-point start is a streak or a trend; Celtic, with five games left, need a response quickly. Palace, who twice found a way back in Istanbul, will see the point as a decent one on the road, while Milan face a hard look at how a night that began with a goal conceded after eight minutes ended in a red card and a heavy defeat.
