Saudi Arabia’s tourism story has moved beyond proving that visitors will come. According to the 2026 Vision 2030 review, the Kingdom recorded 123 million domestic and international tourists in 2025, surpassing the original 2030 ambition of 100 million. The next question is more rewarding: what kind of tourism economy can grow from that momentum?

The answer begins with variety. Saudi Arabia can offer Red Sea coastlines, the cool mountains of Aseer, the heritage of AlUla and Diriyah, Jeddah’s urban energy and Riyadh’s expanding calendar. The Saudi Tourism Authority positions that range as both an economic driver and a way to share the country’s landscape and culture with the world.

From arrival numbers to memorable journeys

A strong visitor economy is measured not only by airport gates. It depends on guides who can interpret a place, independent restaurants that express local taste, comfortable transport between regions and hospitality that encourages guests to stay longer. These are areas where Saudi entrepreneurs can turn national visibility into local income.

Growth also creates an incentive to protect what visitors value. Heritage districts, coral reefs, desert skies and mountain villages are not interchangeable attractions. Careful capacity management and community participation can preserve their character while creating work.

A more open national story

Vision 2030, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has made tourism one of the most visible expressions of a more open Saudi Arabia. Visitors now encounter a society confident enough to present ancient history, contemporary art, regional food and ambitious new design in the same journey.

The official Visit Saudi platform increasingly makes trip planning practical, but the human experience will determine whether people return. Warm welcomes, reliable service and genuine encounters are the strongest marketing.

The opportunity after the milestone

Reaching a numerical target early is impressive. Building a tourism culture that benefits residents, supports conservation and rewards repeat exploration would be more important. Saudi Arabia now has the scale to move from a destination people are curious about to one they understand, recommend and revisit.

Better regional transport and multilingual information can help visitors discover this variety with confidence. Every smooth journey between destinations strengthens the national tourism brand while giving local operators a larger market.
