Chiefs and 49ers Both Lose Their Unbeaten Records on NFL Sunday, Leaving the Vikings Alone at 6-0
Seattle held Patrick Mahomes without a red-zone trip, Atlanta forced four turnovers against San Francisco, and J.J. McCarthy won his first Giants start in overtime in Week 7.

Sunday in the NFL began with one unbeaten team falling and ended with another. By the time the Seattle Seahawks finished off the Kansas City Chiefs 20-3 on Sunday Night Football, the Minnesota Vikings, 16-10 winners over the Colts for a 6-0 record, were the only team in the league without a loss, NBC Sports reported.
It was Week 7, and four teams had a bye: the Bills, Jaguars, Chargers and Commanders.
How did the Seahawks beat the Chiefs?
The Chiefs managed 11 first downs and 213 yards and went 3 for 11 on third down. For the first time in any Patrick Mahomes start, including the playoffs, they did not reach the red zone. Mahomes completed 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards with an interception and no touchdown. Kenneth Walker III, the former Seahawk, carried 14 times for 36 yards, and Harrison Butker missed a 58-yard field goal before halftime and a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter that would have made it a one-score game.
Seattle's Jaxon Smith-Njigba had nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown, and Sam Darnold threw for 257 yards. Emanuel Wilson's 21-yard touchdown run sealed it. Seattle improved to 4-3 and host the Bears next Monday night, while Kansas City, 5-1, travel to face the Broncos.
Why did the 49ers lose to the Falcons?
Atlanta beat San Francisco 29-20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 49ers' first defeat of the season, NBC Sports Bay Area said. The 49ers turned the ball over four times, two fumbles and two interceptions by Brock Purdy, and Atlanta turned those into 13 points. Jessie Bates III intercepted a Purdy throwaway attempt in the third quarter with San Francisco trailing 19-14, and Kendal Daniels picked him off with under three minutes left.
Penalties hurt as well. The 49ers took seven for 55 yards, including four that gave Atlanta first downs on a drive to a 26-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. San Francisco played without receivers Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel and edge rusher Nick Bosa, and the team is now 6-1 with a bye ahead.
What happened in Giants-Texans and the rest of the slate?
In Houston, J.J. McCarthy won his first start for the New York Giants, 27-21 in overtime, with 20 of 28 passing for 252 yards and no touchdown pass, Yahoo Sports reported. Houston tied the game with a Xavier Hutchinson touchdown catch with under a minute left, then Devin Singletary ran 30 yards for the winner. Cam Skattebo rushed for 124 yards and Malik Nabers had 111 receiving yards. The Giants are 4-2-1 and have a bye before playing at Philadelphia on 8 November.
- Rams 35, Raiders 21: Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes.
- Lions 20, Packers 17: Jake Bates kicked the walk-off field goal, and Detroit is 4-2.
- Broncos 30, Cardinals 16: Denver sacked Jacoby Brissett three times and moved to 5-2.
Those scores come from a Yahoo Sports live blog updated early Monday. The coming weekend carries the biggest question: Kansas City at Denver, and whether the Vikings can keep their record alone at the top.
