Jaguar Type 01 Arrives as a 1,030hp Electric Grand Tourer With No Rear Window and the Concept's Look Intact
The first production car from Jaguar's reinvention keeps the divisive Type 00 look, with an aluminium body, no rear window, a 24-inch glass cockpit display and a 0.23 drag coefficient.

Jaguar gambled with its image when it showed the Type 00 concept, and the production Type 01, revealed on 7 October, shows the company is not backing down. The four-door electric grand tourer keeps the long bonnet, low body and slab-sided drama that provoked such strong reactions the first time, as Motoring Research describes it.
It is the first production Jaguar under the brand's new design direction, and Autocar India notes that much of the concept's design survived intact.
What does the Type 01 look like?
The body is aluminium, more than 5.2 metres long with a 3.2 metre wheelbase and a height of about 1.4 metres, on 23-inch wheels. Its drag coefficient is 0.23, which Jaguar says makes it the most aerodynamic car it has built, according to Autocar India.
Two features carry the character. The first is the "strikethrough" graphic, a bar that cuts across the nose and rear, with LED lights hidden in the strakes at the back. The second is what is missing: there is no rear window. A camera at the base of the windscreen feeds a digital mirror. Motoring Research says the "impossible panel", where the roof meets the rear section, was a major production challenge.
Andrew Wheel, Jaguar's design development director, said the car "was born, developed and will be built in the British Midlands."
What is inside?
The cabin is divided into four zones by a central spine. A 24-inch OLED screen sits behind a single sheet of glass, with a 7-inch touchscreen lower down and another for rear passengers. A 13-speaker soundbar runs the width of the car, and the boot holds 450 litres.
Brass-look trim appears inside and out, including the leaper badge on a panel behind the front wheels and a new "JR" mark in the wheel centres.
How fast is it, and when can you buy one?
Three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, produce 1,030hp and 1,365Nm, per Autocar India. Jaguar quotes 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds. The chassis has dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers. The battery is rated at 118kWh usable on an 850 volt system, and on a 350kW DC fast charger it can add up to 321km of range in about 13 minutes, according to Autocar India and TimesLive. Range is claimed at about 450 miles, and the car weighs roughly 2.7 tonnes.
TimesLive reports UK sales expected in the first quarter of 2027, while Autocar India says international deliveries are scheduled by mid-2027; price reports differ between outlets, so check Jaguar's own figures. The real test is whether buyers who loved the old sports saloons will embrace a shape that looks nothing like them, and whether the cabin and finish match the theatre of the exterior.
